LINDA RONSTADT
Elle représente une des voix incontournables de son époque. Un talent reconnu dans le monde entier puisqu’elle a vendu pas moins de 50 millions d’albums et a été honorée de 10 Grammy Awards ! Bien qu’étiquetée comme chanteuse Folk, Linda Ronstadt est appréciée pour ses goûts très divers qui la menèrent à explorer aussi bien les sons Jazz que les musiques traditionnelles mexicaines, en passant par le Rock.
Née le 5 décembre 1947 à Tucson en Arizona, Linda Ronstadt débute sa carrière de chanteuse dans les années 60 au sein du groupe Stone Poneys.
Leur premier hit, « Different drum » sort en 1967. Il s’agit d’une reprise des Monkees.
Elle travaille ensuite aux côtés de Neil Young, d’abord comme choriste, puis assurant les premières parties de ses concerts.
En 1970 sort son premier single en solo : « Long long time ».
En 1974, l’album « Heart Like a Wheel » la propulse sous les feux de la rampe.
De 1974 à 1980, elle est produite par Peter Asher (l’ex beau-frère de Sir Paul McCartney). C’est sous son label qu’elle signe ses plus grands succès.
Artiste éclectique, elle s’essaye à divers univers musicaux, avec plus ou moins de succès : Rock, Country, Rythme and Blues, New Wave, et même Opéra.
C’est avec un grand talent d’interprète qu’elle s’approprie les grands succès des années 60 : « That’ll be the day » de Buddy Holly, ou encore « It’s so easy », « Blue Bayou » de Roy Orbisson…Elle reprend également les Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carole King ou encore Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Incontestablement, la dame a du goût !
Son point faible, c’est sa timidité. En effet, Linda Ronstadt n’est pas à l’aise sur scène et rechigne à travailler son image glamour. Pas assez tape à l’œil, l’artiste est boudée par la presse. Avec les années, elle fera quelques compromis sur son apparence, mais restera une artiste discrète malgré sa renommée.
Dans les années 80, elle collabore avec de nombreux noms de la folk, notamment avec Dolly Parton avec qui elle enregistre un album « Trio », avec Emmylou Harris. Un Trio de choc ! Cet album sorti en 1987 est une compilation de standards country, il recevra un Grammy. Dix des titres seront classés dans le Top Ten des ventes de Country rock. Ne vous laissez pas décourager par la pochette complètement kitch !
Touche à tout, elle enregistre ensuite un album pour enfant, sorti en 1996 « Dedicated to the one I love ».
En 1999, les trois reines de la folk sortiront « Trio 2 ».
La même année, Linda Ronstadt sort un album « Western Wall (The Tucson Sessions) avec la grande Emmylou Harris. Nouvelle collaboration avec, cerise sur le gâteau, Neil Young en guest star dans les chœurs et à l’harmonica. On y trouve encore des reprises de Jackson Browne, mais aussi, de Bruce Sprinsteen, Leonard Cohen et de Sinnead O’Connor.
