Hilary Scott, Interview Part II
7. Do you consider yourself as a folk, pop, rock, or a blues singer? Hilary: "That's funny, I guess I sort of answered that in the last response. I consider myself alt-country, folk-rock, pop, AND blues! I enjoy bending genres and challenging people NOT to categorize what they hear. I hope the style is a little bit difficult to define." ****** 8. What are your professional hopes for the future? Hilary: "I hope to continue co-writing projects with well-established and famous people, and I am certain I will always continue writing and recording my music. I have been involved in many fundraisers for important projects like hurricane relief, medical research for various diseases, women's shelters for abused women, and others community efforts. I find that giving back to community and helping people makes the job of being a musician much more meaningful. I also hope that my tour schedule will increase to the point where I can travel and play music full-time. On stage is where I feel most alive!" ****** 9. You talked to me about a tour in Italy in a few months. Will it be your first time in Europe? Can you give us the dates? Hilary: "I am hoping to have a tour in Italy beginning in September of this year. The musicians with whom I will play are Italian, and are currently giving my music to producers in Rome and Naples, and they will begin setting up the tour dates if all goes well. ****** I do not have the dates yet, but can certainly give them to you as they become available. Hilary: "I will not be my first time in Europe. I travelled to France when I was 16 years old, then when I was in college I lived in Milan, Italy, for 6 months. I studied opera at a conservatory, and also studied the Italian language, music history, and literature. After living in Italy, I toured scotland, Norway and England. My anscestry is primarily Norwegian, with a bit of French, English and Scottish thrown in for good measure. I love Europe and would love to travel there as much as possible." ****** 10. Did you recieve some offers to play in France? Hilary: "Not yet ! If you know any venues my booking agent should contact, please let me know! The French people are known for their open-minded approach to music so perhaps they would accept my music, and I have several French friends I would like to see! Like you!" ****** 11. What is the most beautiful encounter you had in your artistical career? Hilary: "The most amazing thing that has ever happened to me in the course of my career was when I played at a venue in Kansas City in 2006. The man who was doing sound (mixing intruments, checking monitors levels, recording the show, etc.) was very quiet, and didn't speak to me for nearly the entire show. When we were getting ready to play the last set, he asked me to play my song "Find Heaven" for him. I didn't think he'd ever even heard my music, and here he was requesting one of MY songs! He told me he needed to hear the song, as it would bring him comfort. he was suffering because just two weeks before, his best friend's son had been killed in a drive-by-shooting. He had been shot in the head with a gun. This man told me that the song brought him a sense of peace. I have never felt as good as I did then music should serve a higher purpose of connecting people, providing comfort and understanding. Here are the lyrics to that song.
