SAM BROWN
Connue en France pour son tube « Stop », la fille du musicien et chanteur Joe Brown commence sa carrière artistique dès l’âge de 12 ans, en faisant les chœurs sur l’album « In the Shade » des Small Faces. Sa mère, Vicki Brown est choriste de métier, notamment aux côtés de T-Rex dans les années 70.
Dès l’âge de 17 ans, Sam prend son envol en partant s’installer à Londres pour tenter sa chance sans profiter des relations de ses parents, ni même de leur studio d’enregistrement à la maison. Elle enregistrera donc ses premières démos par ses propres moyens.
Elle se fera son propre cercle d’amis, comptant Robbie McIntosh (ex-Pretender) et Paul Wix Wicken qui joue du clavier aux côtés de Paul McCartney depuis une petite vingtaine d’années maintenant.
Son plus gros succès, l’album « Stop » sort en 1988 et se vend à plus de 2,5 millions d’exemplaires. Elle enchaîne dans la foulée sur un 2ème album « April Moon ».
Les années 90 représentent un tournant dans sa vie professionnelle et personnelle. Traumatisée par la mort de sa mère, elle tourne le dos au show buziness et à l’industrie du disque.
En 1993, sort l’album « 43 minutes ». Oubliés les cheveux blonds décolorés façon Madonna, Sam vend moins de disques, mais elle continue sa route artistique en étant fidèle à elle-même, sans coller à aucune mode.
Il est hors de question pour elle de calquer ses chansons sur le modèle de son unique tube.
Lorsque sa maison de disque A&M lui demande d’inclure un single populaire dans son album « 43 minutes », elle refuse catégoriquement et monte son propre label Pod.
Sam est une femme de caractère. Indépendante, elle continue son chemin aux côtés de Jools Holland, faisant des chœurs dans son Rythme and Blues Orchestra.
En 1994, elle sera choriste de Pink Floyd lors de la tournée Division Bell Tour.
Quand George Harrison sort “My Sweet Lord” version 2000, Sam fera les choeurs.

Le 29 novembre 2002, Sam Brown chante aux côtés des plus grands pour honorer la mémoire de George Harisson, disparu un an plus tôt.
